July 27th

Working their way toward The Top 40 this week we find "Thank The Lord For The Night Time" by Neil Diamond (#43), "Words" by The Monkees (#48), "Cold Sweat" by James Brown (#49), "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison (#68), "Come Back When You Grow Up Girl" by Bobby Vee (#77) and "Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie" by Jay and the Techniques (#88).

In response to all the rioting going on across his country, President Lyndon Johnson appoints the Kerner Commission to look into what may be causing all of this violence.  Later that same day, Black Militant Rap Brown says "Violence is as American as Apple Pie."  (I suppose one could reasonably argue that this way of thinking may have in some way contributed to what was going on in our country at the time.)
